I have sequenced quite a few MIDI files
of ragtime piano pieces by various composers such as:
Scott Joplin, James Scott, Joseph Lamb, Jelly-Roll Morton, Eubie Blake, and others.
The midi files are in General Midi (GM) multi-track (type 1) format. Track #1 typically has the treble clef part, while track #2 typically has the bass clef part. This should allow you to adjust the volumes of the tracks to suit your individual sound card, as the bass/treble volume balance of the reproduced notes varies greatly from manufacturer to manufacturer.
Many of these MIDIs were made several years ago when I had only an FM synthesis sound card. After I upgraded to a wavetable sound card and heard quality midi files by other performers, I realized that it was possible to make MIDI files which actually sound like live playing.
My newer files are being sequenced with extensive editing to produce expression in individual note volumes, durations, and timing which should make them sound more like a live performance. I am also slowly going back through the older files and updating them with similar live-performance sounding editing. I am learning new tricks as I go along, so some files are better than others.
The versions of the newer, hand edited files on this page are the most recent, and may be newer than the versions found elsewhere on the net.
This symbol : _ [-] denotes older files which have not yet been edited. These older files will generally be accurate transcriptions of the score, but will sound dull and lifeless in comparison to some of the newer files. Eventually, I hope to update all of the older files.
Please feel free to e-mail me to let me know what you think of these files. I would also enjoy hearing any files sequenced by other ragtime fans out there in cyberspace.
